Update from Alex's charity challenge
posted: Thursday 13 June 2019
Service Desk Co-ordinator, Alex set himself a series of challenges to provide moral support to his sister, and help fundraise for charity at the same time. Here's what he's been up to (in his own words ...)
Since setting up to do the challenges in December I can confirm that my sister Emily has completed all off her Chemotherapy treatments and since early April has been on remission with 1 last check up scan next week before the (touch wood) all clear!! As you can all imagine the relief is amazing but also now the realisation that the challenges need to be completed.
The below challenges have been completed;
1) The Hair Shave – I cant lie its taken a lot longer to grow the hair back then anticipated.
2) The Sky Dive – After rebooking twice, At the end of March I finally jumped, then I fell, I screamed and I then I landed ????. (Wouldn’t advise when you have ankle ligament damage at the time.)
3) The Half Marathon – Was a cold windy day in Surrey but hit my Target of Sub 2hrs finishing in 1hr 55mins (No I didn’t play 75minutes of football after, lesson learnt there????)
So what’s next??
The Cotswold Way 100km Walk – Over the 29th & 30th June I will be walking 100km continuous from Bath to Cheltenham
Cycle Ride – 1 week after the 60 Mile walk and after realising I cant cycle on a Motorway…. I will be taking part in the Maidenhead BikeAthon doing the 31.5mile route
Tough Mudder – On the 27th July I will be taking part in tough mudder in Leeds
Three Peaks – TBC will update you all on this in the next couple of weeks.
As always thank you to everyone that has donated so far. Currently the total is at £3,060.00 which I cant thank you enough for. The two charities, Lymphoma Action and Teenage Cancer Trust have been so good to my sister and our family through out the months so to be able to give back as much as we can is the main aim.
