Leadership conference with Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE
On a snowy day in January, 46 MCFT staff, Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE and four of the management team from the GCC met at Wycombe Heights Golf Centre for MCFT’s first leadership conference.
The conference was open to all who have leadership responsibilities as well as those who would like to be a future leader at MCFT.
MCFT develops their leaders of today and the future, sowing the seed for our young apprentices about growth and development, as well as reminding those in leadership roles about what we all need to be doing to continue to grow as a business.
The purpose of the day was to be with like-minded people from across the business who all had one thing in common - the development of themselves and others. The sessions were interactive and thought provoking, with the senior management team & Sir Matthew Pinsent, all of whom have a wealth of experience in leading and developing teams, facilitating the breakout sessions.
During the day we crafted our ‘new normal’ and looked inwardly about what can we all do on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to help our teams to become ‘the best they can be’.
We also launched our introductory & foundation leadership programmes to add to our highly successful ILM Assured higher tier leadership academy.
Highlights of the day
It was great opportunity to announce our leader of the year 2019. Terence Horsman was given the award for making things happen, being clear of the goal and how the team can get there, doing the right things right, impacting others outside of his immediate team, taking responsibility for positive development of himself and others. He has consistently demonstrated his drive and resilience. Well done Terence!
“What a fantastic event this was! Makes me incredibly proud to work for an SME that invests this amount of time and effort into developing its staff. I loved the parallels Sir Matthew Pinsent was able to draw between training for the Olympics and working in a high performance culture. The breakout sessions were also brilliantly facilitated and to be awarded the leader of the year award greatly exceeded my expectations. Overall, the best event so far and I’m looking forward to join the next one!”
Finn was awarded ‘spirit of MCFT’ for the positive impact he has had at MCFT since joining 5 months ago - a leader of the future.
A special mention to Nessa from HR, who for the first time didn’t have to work with Development Director, Karen to create the plan and then deliver it – she actually got to experience it from her colleagues’ viewpoint.
It was great to see everyone come together and discuss how we become better at what we do and how we all can personally grow from these experiences, and by just by taking time to reflect & listen you can learn so much! Looking forward to our 2nd event planned for June 2019.
A fantastic ½ day session, where we not only did we get to hear from Olympic Gold Medallist Sir Matthew Pinsent, but we got to spend valuable time with other future leaders in the business bouncing ideas and thoughts around. We spent time talking about the magic ingredients of when the business is performing at its best, as well as working on a personal contract to ourselves, which documented what we would do differently going forwards to aid our self-development. A particular highlight for me was our CEO, Chris Craggs, being brave enough to ask for feedback on himself and what he could change to develop himself as a leader.
