What can we learn from the Carillion collapse?

As an organisation, McFT chooses to walk away from contracts where cost reduction is the only focus, without thought to the outcome or how a service is actually going to be delivered for the cost. The Carillion collapse has clearly illustrated the dangers of the cost cutting culture. A recent article in The Guardian gives a harsh critique of the joint select committee enquiry including this joint statement issued after the event from Frank Field MP and Rachel Reeves MP: “This morning, a series of delusional characters maintained that everything was hunky dory until it all went suddenly and unforeseeably wrong.”
