Socially Accountable

We live and work in communities - and, as well as following best practice, we would like to be recognised as active, responsible and supportive members of those communities.

To that end, we are independently accredited to SRM8000, the internationally recognised standard for fair and egalitarian employment practices ; and we support various worthy causes.

In recent years, within the local community, we have supported Maidenhead Rugby Club, Teddington Junior Football, Thames Hospicecare, Cancer Research and various culinary and catering events. In 2009 we are again supporting Thames Hospicecare, Naomi House, Nicholls Spinal Injury and Cancer Research.

In Memory of Colleagues : Simon Hurford, Paul Bidgood, Gerhard Schaller.

Work Experience

Having shied away for years (always said we could never employ anyone under the age of 25 - shhh - don't tell the age police) , it's clear that, risk or no risk, unless plain metal bashers like us give experience to young people, the powers that be certainly won't. Who now learns to weld ? In the 20 years, we've been going, the local college had 3 year groups, then one, then none. Not saying we're on a mission, just that we can only blame ourselves if, worried about H & S, we no longer have employees - or a business.

Anyhow, we had three lads in for a week - Mig, Arc and Tig welding (sort of - but they had something to take home which looked respectable), polishing and, under the guidance of Workshop Masters Kevin and Tony, trying their hand at pattern-development (making square-to-rounds) and the arcane art of folding metal worktops so that you don't get to the last fold and discover it can't be done.

Thanks to the lads - and bigger thanks to the chaps in the workshop - Kevin especially - for the insights.

A walk in the Country
Our good friends at MITIE, as lead sponsors, asked us to get involved in helping the Clarendon Way sponsored walk for Naomi House ; and we were pleased to help by lending equipment to help cater to the famished walkers at their half-way stage in Broughton. And, despite the blisters, the boss completed the half-walk (12 miles) in record time - pic below, welcome site of Salisbury Cathedral coming off the Downs !
